[Criticisms]: Considering the shifting role of critics and criticism

Siwin Lo, Art historian and writer, Siwin Lo is a writer and PhD student in Art History at the City University of New York's Graduate Center. Her research focuses on twentieth-century art, with particular emphasis on feminism, abstraction, and painting. Her writing has appeared in e-flux, and she has presented on various topics in modern and contemporary art in Canada and the United States. She holds a BA (2013) and an MA (2015) from the University of British Columbia. Her MA thesis problematizes artistic labor in the paintings of Agnes Martin. In addition to research and writing, she teaches in the Art department at Brooklyn College.


Julia Wolkoff BC ‘14, Brooklyn-based writer, Assistant Editor at Art in America

Julia Wolkoff is Assistant Editor at Art in America. She has reviewed artists such as Leslie Hewitt, Heidi Hahn, Jordan Kasey, and Tauba Auerbach for the magazine and has covered exhibitions and museum openings in the United States, Europe, and Asia for the magazine's website. In addition, she has contributed essays to the catalogues for exhibitions including "Lucid Gestures" (2015) at the Louise McCagg Gallery, New York, and Joan Snitzer "Compositions" (2014), at A.I.R. Gallery, Brooklyn. At the 2016 Frieze Art Fair, New York, she moderated a talk on comics in America, and she has also participated in panel discussions presented by the Professional Organization of Women in the Arts and the New York Academy of the Arts.
